Most of the stuff is informative, but links to programs and internet urls are old and nonexistant. The software pictured looks nothing like the new Zune software and things just don’t work as written. My fault, should have bought an ipod:(

I love the format of this book. The author speaks from a easy-to-follow and everyday consumer point of view. Starting from the basics (turning the Zune on) it proceeds from the easiest workings to its most advanced. Well outlined! The wit and honest opinions included made for nice reading. However, I found only half of this book useful. Why? Information (esp., problem solving) in it is becoming outdated, IF you have been updating your Zune online. That is, using Zune Marketplace, which asks you to “update now” perdiodically before you can proceed. The information for downloading YouTube vids was useless. Er, mostly useless. I tried every suggestion and ended up using a website the book recommended for help. And I found help with my own online searches. Even the information given on the opening Zune screen is outdated, as since my last Zune update, my basic screen no longer looks as shown in the book. Technology marches on. But being < > knowledgable in the workings of gadgets, I was able to use the information, with online searches to fix a few problems. I wish the author pointed out the free podcast downloads available to the Zune, through Zune Marketplace. And how to use the ZM, because ZM doesn’t have a help or first users tutorial. BAH! Maybe the ZM was not offering the freebees when the author researched? I would love to see this manual updated, as I, again, loved the author’s manner of speaking. The book seemed more like a sort of enjoyable, entertaining tome rather than an boring educational read.

The book is outdated. It offers no real new information. I believe the same information could be found online.

Very well-organized overview of the zune and how to use it. This is an excellent option for those whose lives are far too full to spend endless hours on the Internet pulling out the information piece by piece by piece. Although it doesn’t cover the latest zune, the 80, you should find everything you need to get started. If you do have the 80, the websites the author recommends will cover the changes, although most of them just make the zune work better (e.g. lots more storage). Broida is a wonderful writer for this kind of book — like a smart and entertaining friend who knows how to have fun and shows you how, too!

Just operating a Zune straight out of the box may be easy for a teenager but, for the “mature” user, a manual that you can actually read is so much better.

I found this an easy read and quickly helped me get up and running with the Zune.

I recommend this to anyone above the age of 13. ;-)
