I purchased the more expensive one, thinking it would pass video, but NO!! I think that if you build and sell anything for the iphone/ipod it should work like an accessory. I feel sorry that i wasted $40.00 on this junk.

This device does not work with the iPhone 3GS even though the product title/description claims otherwise. When plugged in, the iPhone 3GS gives the message “Charging is not supported with this accessory”. Otherwise the device seems OK.

Let’s review what a dock should do. First of all, it should charge the device. This product comes with a USB plug only, so unless your wall outlets have USB, you’re out of luck. The cables are thin and cheap – on the iphone it will complain that the device was not made for iphone and thus noise will probably spill into the line unless you go into airplane mode (made for iphone .. right!). At least it does one thing that I wanted which is stereo out, but I can detect a slight hissing on the line. You can buy another piece of junk like this for under $30.

I bought this for work so I could listen to streaming audio from my iPhone. I was doing this without a stand but I reasoned that I could connect my headphones to the dock instead of to the phone so I could grab my phone and go without having to disconnect the headphones and dock connector from the phone (streaming audio drains the battery almost visibly). First time I connected my headphones to this stand and docked my phone, I get a ‘doesn’t work with iPhone’ error message. I believe this is because I had my headphones connected directly to the dock. Unfortunately, the ‘headphone’ connector is actually a line-out which means you will not have volume control in the iPhone. Instead, you will have to either have headphones with a built-in volume control or connect to an external device (computer, stereo, powered speakers..) and use that to control the volume. A little annoying but not a deal breaker. The dock is made from a very flexible, bendy plastic but this doesn’t affect function. Given the price of the unit, a metal structure would have been a nice touch. Last gripe is the spacing of the line-out and iPod cable inputs. Unless you use an Apple spec form factor dock cable and an extra small form factor 3.5mm line-out (Konnet ships one with this stand), the connectors will make contact and bend away from each other. The form factor is nice and allows a dock with the case on and the high back offers a little extra support. If Konnet had the stand made from metal or at least sturdy plastic and added a volume control or a headphone-out that allowed for volume control directly from the iPhone, this would be almost perfect.
