Avoid this player at all costs. I bought two units for my department. The first came out of the box with the power button mashed in. An inspection with the case off revealed that the power button is designed to be held in place with two flimsy plastic clips that fail on the first firm press. And the power receptacle is hot-glued in. But wait! the fun wasn’t over yet. As I went to play-test the first CD, the tray retracted out of alignment and proceeded to _break itself in half_. No, I’m really not kidding, though I kind of wish I was. Second unit had the same power button issues as the first. The craven engineers at Gemini should be ashamed to be putting such a useless excuse for a product out there. The only thing not underbuilt on this piece of junk is the number of screws they put in the case – to discourage techs from taking the trouble to see the nightmare inside, I assume.
Trouble is, the only competition for a single deck rackmount player is the Numark CDN series – and they’re nearly as bad. My advice is to skip a price point and buy something by Tascam. It’ll run you $500-600, but is probably the only way you’ll get quality. Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer…
