I buy relatively cheap audio equipment, so I’d never given too much thought to the Bose company before. Then, last week, I was looking for computer speakers at Target and happened to test the Bose Companion 3 against a bunch of other speaker systems that cost up to 5 times less, but which were nevertheless superior to the Bose speakers. It suddenly flashed through my mind that I’d been exposed to many millions of dollars of Bose advertising in my life–magazine and newspaper ads, infomercials, billboards. By god, I was ready to enter the advertising business at that point, because advertising works!
Instead, I just went home and wrote a one-star review of the speakers.
Today, I decided to go back to Amazon and admire my savage evisceration of the product. What actually caught my eye, though, were all the typos and mispellings. Then I started looking at other Bose products, including this oddly shaped CD player. More investigation revealed that it is shaped like an expensive compact stereo Bose sells. Bose customers, I realized, not only will pay $250 for notably bad computer speakers, they will pay $250 for a 3 CD changer because it is in the same shape as another expensive product. My admiration for this company grows.
I have a Sony bookshelf stereo that holds, get ready for this, a whopping 60 CDs, and I got it for $150. It’s loud, and it sounds pretty good. But it’s not classy like this strangely-shaped CD player or the expensive radio it goes with.
Now I realize the reason I have suddenly developed an aversion to Bose products: I lack class.
Three stars to the oddly-shaped CD changer for class.

It didn’t match the Acoustic Wave player I bought. There should have been also two outdoor speakers, as a promotion for buying both pieces.
The page, from which I ordered both pieces, was unclear, and I received the CD player with the wrong CD Changer.
I had to return the changer and buy the one that matched the player. (I know I’ll be refunded the price of the first changer). But by then, the promotion they were having for the outdoor speakers had finished. I received the real changer a few days later, but lost the speakers. I think Amazon owes me the speakers, which is what the bad page made me miss.

I returned my purchase to Bose for an exchange for one that doesn’t have the same problem. I left empty-handed.
Turns out the problem is just mine. When the CD Changer is attached to the Wave CD player the system will only stop playing the CDs when you push “STOP” on the remote! Otherwise the CD or CDs will play endlessly. Or I can disconnect the CD Changer from the main CD Player for those times I want to just play one CD and have it stop when it’s done.
I said to the tech on the phone and the salesperson in the store that $650.00 is a lot of money for a system that can’t just play one, two or more CDs and stop when finished playing.
I guess they specialize in superb sound with limited focus on other features. Maybe they feel that the sound is so good that you will want to hear it non-stop!
So I will look for something less costly for the bedroom upstairs. I will wait for Bose to “fix” this “problem”. It seems so basic.

Without this changer, the basic Bose Wave Music System will hold two CDs, but with it attached to your system, you can load five CDs and enjoy hours of uninterrupted music. My only gripe is that I had to set up my Bose Wave Music system first, and then “add-on” the changer by installing extra software located on one disc (included). This really isn’t much of a hassle, but it does take a bit of extra work. (Make sure you follow the instructions carefully, and you shouldn’t have any problems). The bottom line is that this changer works flawlessly; helping the Wave Music System put out hours of fantastic sound, and it is well-worth the extra cost. And when your system is playing, your friends won’t believe the sound is coming from the little “radio” on your nightstand. You can’t beat the sound for the price. I did my homework before purchasing, and my research kept bringing me back to the Bose Wave System. I read reviews that found the average person can’t detect the difference between this system, and one costing two or three times more, and I have to agree. I’m certainly no expert, but to me the Wave System lives up to its reputation. Having said that, this multi-CD changer makes the system much more convenient and adds to the enjoyment you will receive from your Bose Wave System.

Less than 2 years after buying this through QVC the cd in slot 2 is stuck, will not eject and has disabled the cd play function for the 2-piece system. Bose says to send it in for repair for $90 ($75 plus shipping and tax). That’s more than 30% of the purchase price!! We hardly used this system except for Christmas music and now it is just a large, EXPENSIVE, paperweight.
